Dr. Miriam O'Shea presents the topic "Value Stream Mapping in order to avoid waste" on the dem 17. Logistics-Colloquium in Hamburg

The 17. Logistics-Colloquium, on the 6th March 2008, at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) was held along the line of "Sustainability in logistics". Companies like UPM Kymmene Sales GmbH and Lufthansa Technik Logistik GmbH present their strategies and projects for sustainability, efficient design of worldwide transport chains and for environmentally friendly trading logistics. Dr. Miriam O’Shea of the GfU Gesellschaft für Unternehmenslogistik mbH lectured from a current project of the Forschungsgemeinschaft für Logistik e.V. about the "Value Stream Mapping in order to avoid waste". A lot of companies of different industries and the department of technical logistics of the TUHH worked together with the GfU mbH on this topic, in order to find answers for the following questions: How can a sustainable security of companies be realized? Is the continuous avoidance of waste a challenge for future managements? What kind of methods and tools have already been proven in practice? How is the key-method Value Stream Mapping going to be applied by employees and managers?

The Methodportal www.MEPORT.net is online

For years the application of methods lags compared to method development. On the one hand, neither the existence nor the utilization of appropriate methods is known to an adequate extent. In addition to this it is almost impossible to learn and apply something new in the daily business routine. However, the application of methods is a good way to find a suitable solution for a problem rapidly. But then on the other hand, if the method is known it is not carried out at the maximum efficiency. Moreover advanced training is rare and often too expensive.

From June 2007 the Methodportal can be found on www.meport.net. There you will find method descriptions incl. IT-Tools, contact persons, references and training documents, that ensure an easy and efficient method application. MEPORT.net is going to be continuously updated with new methods. You find methods like ABC-Analysis, Brainstorming, Brainwriting, Mind Mapping, risk analysis and SWOT-Analysis just to name a few.

The GfU mbH acts family-friendly!

Working parents – successful on the job and enough time for the young generation? Not a problem in the GfU mbH. More than half of the GfU-employees have children. So part-time work is not a problem. Dr. Miriam O'Shea, for example, uses the home office in order to have enough time for her children and family. It is as well possible to come back with 30 to 100% of the previous working time. In addition to this, the GfU offers its employees to take their annual holiday for half a day.

Move to the new office in the Tempowerkring 10

At the beginning of May we finally moved! The old office in the Temowerkring 1 was getting too small. And after a long period of search we found something not even that far away in Tempowerkring 10. The first floor waited for new leasers and so we decided to move in with the ILS Integrated Logistic Systems GmbH and the FGL Forschungsgemeinschaft für Logistik e.V.. We turned the former training rooms into 10 attractive offices and 2 conference rooms. The reconstruction took 2 months and on the 2nd of may 2007 it was finally done and we could move in.

Andreas Schramm holding his lecture

March 2007

Andreas Schramm, manager of the GfU mbH, holds a lecture about "Proactive optimization of supplier logistics" on the 16th Logistics-Colloquium in Hamburg

Detailed informationen to this lecture can be found in the article "Proactive optimization of suppliert logistics".
